Running for CAPT office? Don't forget deadlines
Eligibility to run
To run for office, you must have been a CAPT member on or before January 1, 2010.
Also you must have completed job steward training by March 22, 2010. Contact your chapter president to arrange for steward training locally.
Candidate filing deadline
March 10 is the deadline for filing declarations of candidacy with CAPT Headquarters.
If filed by mail, they must be postmarked by March 10. It’s recommended to mail by “certified mail, return receipt requested.” If filed by FAX, they must be received by CAPT Headquarters by 5 p.m., March 10. A declaration must be signed by the candidate for it to be considered valid. (Be sure to include your contact information with your declaration.)
Candidate statements
If a candidate wants a one-page campaign statement included in the ballot packets that will be mailed to members, it must be postmarked by March 10. If faxed or emailed, it must be received at CAPT Headquarters no later than March 10.
Specific requirements for the candidate statements are in the CAPT Operating Policies.
Contact your Chapter office or CAPT Headquarters and the requirements will be sent to you.
Ballot Information
Eligibility to vote In order to vote, voters must be CAPT members by March 17.
Mailing of ballots Ballots will be sent by first-class mail no later than April 1 to all eligible CAPT members.
Election results Ballots will be counted on May 19 and winners will take office
immediately. There are procedures for runoff votes and
election challenges.
