More on DJJ 'rightsizing': assignment letters, new dates and more

Editor's note: Below is a letter from CAPT CDCR Chapter Vice President Deena Grant on the results of today's CAPT meeting with the state on outstanding member issues.

Dear CDCR Coworkers:

Today, CAPT reps once again sat down with state representatives to get things straightened out regarding our members affected – either directly or indirectly -- by the so-called “rightsizing” in CDCR’s Division of Juvenile Justice.

Our union reps went through each and every affected Psych Tech name by name with the state to make sure they would be assigned correctly, according to our CAPT contract.

Here are the major results from today’s meeting:

New, finalized assignment letters coming. State representatives said they would soon issue new letters to everyone affected with finalized job assignments on them. It’s important that you have your official assignments in writing from CDCR, instead having to depend on rumors or verbal statements.

Change in dates. The official layoff date for San Joaquin County has been changed to be “no earlier than March 1” in order to provide more time for the process, while the official date San Bernardino County employees remains February 24.

NCYCC “missing positions.” The question regarding whether there were four or two vacant positions at NCYCC was answered: There are four vacancies that will be honored, however, two of the vacancies are what are called “unviable” vacancies that could be affected by any further rounds of layoffs at NCYCC.
